Northern Stage’s adaptation of Beauty and the Beast puts a magical twist on a much-loved story. A stolen rose spells bad news for our heroine Beauty in this enchantingly wicked retelling, with psychedelic costuming and production design.
Historical silhouettes are exaggerated, contrasted with a distinct 70's look that conjures imagery of variety show hosts in sequin jackets.
It was a delight to work as a Costume Maker on the production, under designer Verity Quinn and superviser Lucy Minta Reeves, and alongside fellow maker Katy Gardener.
I provided costume making and pattern cutting assistance across many costumes, but mainly worked on Beast's main and 'Prince' outfit, Beauty & Lettice's 'Peasant' looks and some of Beauty's 'Royal' pieces. Embellishment work was also completed, as well as alterations on set pieces and stagehand costumes.
